The Artistic Mother - Video

Hello, Artistic Mothers. Well, I've had kind of a lazy summer just hanging out with my children at the pool. But it's now time for me to get back on a schedule and start back to fitting art into my life a little each day. I have been dabbling in a little art. The children and I made my husband some artsy gifts for his 50th birthday. I will post those in the next week or so. I have finished my Butterfly Reminder for Week 5 of The Artistic Mother book. And I am halfway through with The Name Plate from Week 6. I will post The Butterfly Reminder on Saturday and the Name Plate on Monday. So I am now at the halfway mark of the projects in The Artistic Mother book. My goal is to complete them all before Thanksgiving. I feel it's important I give myself a goal and a deadline to work toward so that I will take it seriously and accomplish what I have started. The reason I am going through these projects is to establish the habit of fitting a little bit of art into my daily life. This has been so good for me, and I am learning so much. I have enjoyed going through these projects with you and getting to know several of you. When we are done, I hope to continue on with our friendship and continue to visit one another's blogs.

My husband took me on a date to the Cheesecake Factory, Yumm. I wanted to go to Barnes & Noble to see if Shona's book was there. And sure enough it was; so I did a video. So if you want to hear my voice for about 50 seconds talking about Shona's book, then click on the play arrow.

I would love to hear about your summer and what you are currently working on and where you are at with the projects.

So let's get excited again and geared up to move forward. Are you with me?

  1. Well hello again! I've been wondering how you are and what you've been up to. Glad to see you're well (and you look so pretty!) This summer flew by, but I got quite a few art projects done. Fun! I am ready to get back to Artistic Mother, but I'm very behind. I'm stuck on the artistic vision banner. I first need to make the time to write out my artistic vision statement, but have been avoiding it! Can't wait to see your projects though.

  2. So great to see you back Trudy. I had lovely summer too, but spent most of it away from the studio just enjoying being with the family. I am working on the butterfly reminder now, but am scared to drill into the bals in case it breaks, so need to get over that mental hurdle to finish it off. Am also abou to start 21 secret and can't wait but need to get a little more disciplined (stop blog-hopping so much!)

  3. Carin, it will crack. So I suggest that you practice on a scrap piece of balsa wood first. Use a smaller drill bit to make a starter hole, then use your 8th-inch drill bit.

  6. Glad to see you back! Yes, I have been remiss in finishing the projects. I keep making papers tho - have lots of those! And I have been doing a numberof different challenges. So, yes I want to continue.

  7. I always want to take a picture of Shona's book on the shelves when I see them. :-) You look beautiful for your date Trudy! Oh, and as pitiful as it is, your acorns are finally on their way. I hope the 'better late than never' motto can be applied, along with a giant measure of grace. Hugs and love, Amy

  8. Hi Trudy,

I too am tackling the projects in Shona Cole's Artistic Mother book, although not in order ; ) I'm starting on week 8 this Sunday. I'm so excited because I am having an art retreat at home for two days working on some new projects, and I have invited a couple girlfriends to come do this project with me. I'll post the results next week.
